Our Communications Manager Nina Seale spoke to Dr Nick Askew, Director of Conservation Careers, about her career in conservation communications, the challenges of Synchronicity Earth’s focus on overlooked species and ecosystems, and why she is passionate about diversity and inclusion in the environment sector.
“I love getting to tell stories about people protecting the natural world. There are headlines about the environment crises that I really dislike, very frequently something like ‘Scientists say the climate is worse than ever’ which we’ve heard for the last twenty years, it isn’t inspiring people to action anymore.
“But diving into the stories, talking about how one person is pulling together support to stop a mine from destroying a forest, or the people dedicated to finding the long-lost Asian unicorn or the fat catfish…
There is so much more inspiration to be found from conservation than I think anyone could imagine.
“I’m very lucky that telling these stories is my job, and that at Synchronicity Earth, they are always the ‘overlooked’ stories we are bringing to light.”
