Having recently undertaken a recruitment process to strengthen and take forward the leadership of Synchronicity Earth, we are delighted to announce our two new Co-Executive Directors.
Rachel Hewitt
Firstly, we have appointed Rachel Hewitt as our Co-Executive Director, Finance & Operations. Currently Chief Finance Officer at Client Earth, she has held a number of senior roles, including Chief Operating Officer at other NGOs. Rachel brings years of experience in financial and operational development and delivery, plus experience managing HR.
Rachel will be in post from 3rd March 2025 and will lead our finance, operations and HR teams, as well as steering our strategic development alongside the Co-Executive Director, Programmes & Engagement.
“I am delighted to be joining Synchronicity Earth at this important time for conservation. I am pleased to be staying in the environmental sector, and to have the opportunity to work for a funder that takes a such progressive approach to fair funding, an area I have a long-standing interest in.”
Helen Tugendhat
Second, we have appointed Helen Tugendhat as Co-Executive Director, Programmes & Engagement. She will be joining us from the Forest Peoples Programme, where she coordinates the Environmental Governance Programme. Helen brings many years of experience working with Indigenous Peoples and local communities and on national and international policy related to environmental governance conservation and empowering Indigenous Peoples. She is also Vice-Chair, Rights, Governance and Equity, at the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas.
Having worked on improving processes and implementing ways for teams to work together more effectively through organisational growth, we know she’ll bring valuable insights to Synchronicity Earth. Helen will be in post from May and will lead our Programmes, Philanthropy, and Communications teams, as well as steering our strategic development alongside Rachel.
“I am really excited to be joining the team at Synchronicity Earth at this stage in its growth. The values-driven way in which Synchronicity Earth supports conservation in under-funded and under-recognised places is what attracted me to the organisation, along with the way it champions collaboration in conservation and celebrates cultural diversity.”
Rachel and Helen bring an outstanding breadth and depth of experience in the environment sector, leadership, and organisational development. Together, they will make a wonderful co-leadership team and we look forward to welcoming them to Synchronicity Earth.
